meet the refresh wellness team
Andrea Wensley, Owner:
I'm thrilled to lead the Refresh Wellness team. I grew up in Grand Rapids, MI, but moved away after I graduated high school to attend The Evergreen State College in Olympia, WA. I absolutely loved my time in the Pacific Northwest. I married my husband in 2002 and had our one and only son, Jamison, in 2009.
I spent 13 years out in WA, CA and CO before I was called home to West Michigan. I am happy to be back in the beautiful Cascade area to raise our son and be close to family.
For over 10 years, I struggled with chronic Lyme Disease, at times being bedridden. I finally found my own unique, unconventional and multifaceted approach to reclaiming my health. As horrible and challenging as those years were, I now know that they were my own soul's journey to bring me to my purpose and truly evolve me into the person I am today.
Now, I am incredibly passionate about preventative self care because it is easier to keep my body healthy then it is to heal from chronic illness. It is my hope to bring back ancient concepts of preventative and natural medicine that have been interwoven throughout our history. They are absolutely imperative in our modern day society if we are to live well and raise healthy future generations.
As a full time student of life, I have pursued many interests over the years that include becoming a personal trainer, master gardener, Law of Attraction coach, and completing year one of Eden Energy Medicine. I am currently obtaining my 200 hour yoga teacher training certification at Cascade Yoga Studio. I love outdoor activities including gardening, hiking, golfing, biking, skiing, camping and watersports, and just being in nature, soaking up the miraculous beauty and healing earth energy.
I am deeply drawn to following the natural rhythms of the earth which include seasonal eating, studying Ayurveda and aligning with the moon cycle. I am passionate about the environment, supporting local, and doing my part to reduce my carbon footprint and live a more simple and sustainable life. I love essential oils and plant based medicine, and I enjoy cooking and eating healthy food, especially unique and ethnic flavors. I meditate and enjoy exploring spirituality and feeling deeply connected. I love trying new healing modalities and have a pretty extensive list going so far! Prioritizing self care not only helped me heal from chronic illness, but it keeps me thriving so that I can show up and serve my family and my community with joy.
I live to be inspired. I am a mom, a wife, a daughter, a sister, a friend, a student, a teacher, and now a small business owner and leader of the Refresh team!!! I wear many hats and strive to find harmony through the constant ebb and flow of life and responsibility.
Michelle Helmholdt, Business Manager:
My name is Michelle Helmholdt. I started at Refresh in December of 2014. I met the founder, Holly Terpsma, while working alongside a holistic health coach. I worked at Refresh part-time as I finished my bachelor’s degree, and graduated with a degree in Sustainable Business from Aquinas College in Grand Rapids, MI.
My focus throughout my schooling was sustainable agriculture and how it is related to a healthy ecosystem. Over the years I have seen how intertwined our food source and daily lives impact our overall health.
I have been on a difficult health journey with my thyroid since 2016. Thankfully, I was already connected with some great friends and resources in the holistic field to help me through my healing process and provide great support and direction.
On my road to recovery I have increased the services here at Refresh along with a whole array of other healthy practices. The services at Refresh have complimented my healing process immensely. Using the services consistently, I notice a significant improvement in my overall energy and ability to relax, and a decrease in my inflammation.
In June of 2017, I was presented with the opportunity to work at Refresh full time as the business manager. I am thrilled to work at a place where I am passionate about the mission. I am excited for the mission Refresh Wellness is bringing to the community and am grateful for this opportunity to be a part of it. I wholeheartedly enjoy meeting and working with our clientele and helping them on their health journey.
Kelsey Kaiser, Part Time Employee:
Hi, my name is Kelsey. My journey in health and wellness did not start with myself, but I am inspired to live a healthy lifestyle now after watching my mom became sick from Lyme Disease and Black Mold poisoning. She began detoxing years ago and I witnessed her journey in health and wellness. She went from hardly able to lift her arms to now joining her first gym! When you see someone you love so sick from the inside out totally change, it is hard not to become a believer!
Working in the medical field since 2009, I've been engrossed with medications, surgery, and the health journeys of our patients. I had been working a in retail for about 3 years since moving to Grand Rapids, but knew I wanted to find a second job that really made a difference in other people’s lives just as much as my first job does.
I am a firm believer in the medical field having its place in our world, but I also strongly believe that what you put in, you get out! This is where detoxifying the body and practicing self care comes into place for me! I happily joined the Refresh Wellness team in 2017 to make a difference within the lives of our clients and assist them in cleansing and restoring their bodies. I not only found I could help others, but that I have been challenged, healed, and changed as a person. I am so excited to be able to offer our wonderful healing and detoxifying services to our clients!
Jennifer An, Part Time Employee
Jennifer An is a Certified Natural Health Educator and 200-hour certified yoga instructor. She began her natural health journey at a young age because of her struggle with anxiety, depression and suicidal thoughts. Many people don’t contribute emotional disturbances to toxins in the body but luckily, she worked with a well-educated Naturopath that got her on a regimen of regular hydrotherapy sessions and a vegetarian diet which helped her to not only detox her body but her mind and emotions as well. She went on to study at the NITE Institute in Mt. Pleasant and became certified in 2009 to teach others about these natural therapies that she contributes to saving her life as a young adult. Jennifer is very honored to join the team at Refresh Wellness to serve the community and help those seeking to improve their health and well-being through detox therapy and education.
